Layer 3 Network Engineer (Network Assurance Lead)
The Role
Provide hands-on technical ownership of complex subscriber broadband faults across access, provisioning and CPE layers within an ISP/Wholesale environment. This is a deeply operational, execution‑focused role requiring expert diagnosis of end‑to‑end FTTP issues, structured evidence gathering, and effective engagement with third‑party BNG and wholesale providers.
The role may occasionally require out‑of‑hours work and travel between office locations, primarily Stoke and Irlam.

Ø Key Responsibilities
Ø Investigate complex FTTP subscriber faults end‑to‑end
Ø Analyse DHCP session establishment and lease failures
Ø Troubleshoot Radius authentication and attribute alignment
Ø Validate subscriber state using third‑party BNG session tools
Ø Investigate session drops, stale sessions, and re‑authentication behaviour
Ø Validate VLAN tagging and access alignment
Ø Diagnose IP addressing and allocation issues
Ø Investigate MTU and fragmentation‑related faults
Ø Perform WAN and LAN packet capture analysis
Ø Deep‑dive into CPE routing, NAT and firewall behaviour
Ø Investigate DNS resolution issues
Ø Identify firmware‑related behavioural faults
Ø Validate ACS / TR‑069 provisioning integrity
Ø Diagnose Wi‑Fi performance issues (RSSI, airtime utilisation, interference)
Ø Distinguish internal LAN issues from upstream network faults
Ø Maintain and update technical knowledge base
Ø Own and drive clear communication during major faults and escalations, providing structured updates to internal teams, suppliers, and stakeholders, ensuring transparency and alignment at all stages
Ø Proactively build, maintain, and improve the technical knowledge base, ensuring repeat issues, fixes, and best practices are well documented and easily accessible across teams
Ø Identify gaps in processes, tooling, and documentation, and work with internal teams and suppliers to implement improvements that reduce repeat faults and increase operational efficiency

Key Skills and Experience
Essential
Ø Strong broadband fault diagnostic experience (FTTP preferred)
Ø Practical understanding of DHCP and Radius flows
Ø Solid IP networking fundamentals
Ø Experience working in an IPoE (DHCP‑based) broadband environment
Ø Strong Wi‑Fi troubleshooting knowledge
Ø Comfortable interpreting session data, logs, and diagnostic outputs
Ø Experience working with third‑party BNG or Retail ISP/Wholesale providers
Ø Ability to produce clear, structured technical escalations
Desirable
Ø CCNA‑level knowledge
Ø Experience diagnosing firmware‑related issues
Ø Experience with ACS / TR‑069 provisioning systems
Qualifications
Ø Relevant networking qualifications desirable (e.g., CCNA), but not mandatory
