The Purpose of the Role
A Network Designer will take ownership of all aspects of the network design, working to strict deadlines, while being flexible to meet change requirements when needed; this will include liaison with surveyors, build assurance engineers, build coordinators and other internal and external stakeholders and suppliers.
The role is also to drive and effect innovations and improvements to the Freedom Fibre Design Team performance and methodologies.
Facilitate a clear focus on the organisation, supply partners and individuals in the delivery of strategic initiatives that will provide assurances to our network ownership, CPP and data quality requirements.
Core Responsibilities
- Responsible for the governance of works in compliance with guidelines and codes of practice.
- Applying data quality within our asset and customer management systems
- Driving consistency, quality, suitability, and cost-effectiveness
- Working with vendors to improve our performance efficiency
- Ensuring and overseeing design acceptance
- Ensuring as-builts are received, checked for data compliance and stored
- Investigate across all comparable industries and evaluate where systems, methods or components may be beneficial to Freedom Fibre and its strategic aims
- Work with activity owners and assist with problem resolution and support issue resolution escalations if appropriate
- Assist the wider team in the technical and commercial evaluation of new CPP innovations
- Assist to create, refine and maintain effective productivity and performance monitoring and reporting systems
- Ensure that relevant Design rules, standards and processes are defined and documented
- Work to achieve departmental and individual KPIs
Requirements
- Qualification (or extensive experience) in civils and fibre network planning and design for UK deployment
- Thorough understanding of Freedom Fibre architectures and components
- Thorough understanding of Openreach’s PIA product and it’s applied usage
- Expert-level knowledge of FTTH/P network architecture, components and usage
- Based within a commutable distance of Freedom Fibre networks
- Thorough understanding of Diversionary Works code of practice and its execution within Freedom Fibre
- Qualifications (or extensive experience) in recognised continuous improvement methodologies
- Good working knowledge of APX, DPComm

- Strong track record in delivering results in a fast paced and complex workspace
- Excellent communication and influencing skills
- Maintain excellent working relationships with the Freedom Fibre teams and partner organisations
- A natural team player
- Has an expert level knowledge of FTTH/P passive network architecture/components and industry trends
- Well-developed troubleshooting skills and methodologies
- Commercial awareness
- Willingness and ability to travel to site or partner locations regularly and at short notice
